Presentan legado inglés para la minería, pastes y futbol de Hidalgo

Los famosos pastes, el futbol y la minería son parte del legado de los ingleses del condado de Cornwall que emigraron a México en el siglo XIX y se establecieron en el estado de Hidalgo, son parte del libro “Cornwall e Hidalgo, una conexión duradera”, que se presentó en el Instituto Cervantes de esta ciudad. Por su parte, la autora principal y coordinadora del libro, Bridget Galsworthy Estavillo, narra cómo su madre Jennifer, oriunda de Cornwall, quedó fascinada de Real del Monte y del Panteón de los Ingleses, en los años 70's. La autora señaló que a raíz de la publicación del tomo se restablecieron los vínculos entre las familias de Hidalgo y de Cornwall que desconocían sus orígenes”.
El prólogo estuvo a cargo del Príncipe Carlos, duque de Cornualles y primero en línea de sucesión al trono británico.
La experta en pastes Marion Symonds explicó cómo en Hidalgo se adoptó entre los mineros este alimento.
Por su parte, el embajador de México en el Reino Unido, Diego Gómez Pickering, trajo a la memoria cómo, a partir de la influencia inglesa, nació también en Hidalgo la primera liga de futbol soccer. Refirió que los vínculos con los emprendedores británicos y su influencia en el deporte, la gastronomía y el desarrollo industrial, se afianzaron aún más con el Reino Unido cuando ésta fue la primera nación europea en reconocer la independencia de México.
El tomo, que publica impresionantes fotografías sobre las similitudes y diferencias en la arquitectura y el paisaje entre Cornwall e Hidalgo, está acompañado de una exposición fotográfica del fotógrafo mexicano Diego Echeagaray.
Book Launch And Photographic Exhibition “Cornwall & Hidalgo,
An Enduring Connection”
The book “Cornwall & Hidalgo, An Enduring Connection” was launched on Wednesday 10 September, at the Instituto Cervantes in London. Close to a hundred people attended, representing a wide cross section of interest groups from Cornwall and elsewhere in the United Kingdom, including Mexican residents in Britain, local government, business development, commerce, education, family history, food industry, Cornish studies, and Rotary.
Bridget Galsworthy Estavillo, the book project coordinator narrated the story behind the story, how this book came to be in a powerful and moving speech. Mrs Estavillo has lived in Mexico since her father, Sir John Galsworthy, was appointed British Ambassador to that country and moved there with his family in the 1970s.
H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, in his capacity as Duke of Cornwall, wrote the foreword of this book.
The Ambassador of Mexico to the UK, Diego Gomez-Pickering –host of the event–mentioned how the first football league in Mexico was born in Hidalgo, founded by the Cornish miners who played it in their spare time.
The ambassador also mentioned that Great Britain was the first European nation to recognise the Independence of Mexico and ever since there have been strong ties with British entrepreneurs and their legacy in sports, industry, culture and cuisine. In 2015 will take place an ambitious programme, including activities in the fields of the arts, creative industries, education, science, innovation, technical and scientific cooperation, economic and the promotion of investment and commerce, tourism and gastronomy, during the celebration of the "Year of Mexico in the United Kingdom" and "Year of the United Kingdom in Mexico”.
An exhibition consisting of 30 photographs by Mexican photographer Diego Echeagaray –especially commissioned for this book– of some of the Cornish and Mexican mines and mining towns, followed the book launch and will be on display until 19 September 2014.
